PostSubject: oil catch cans anyone?   Tue Sep 02, 2008 3:04 pm

hey guys, just read an article the other day in a mag. they say oil catch cans are a good thing to have for us turbo cars, i never really gave it much thought, just thought it was a shiny can that sat on the firewall. ha. anyways, i'm seriously looking into installing one. do we need one or two for our cars? and does anyone have a good write up on here?

haven't really posted here much lately so figured maybe this is a good way to hop back in the game!

no write up in here..

i was looking into this mod also.. but more so for my AE86. i find gunk/oil seeping backwards towards the airfilter from the TB quite a bit so i just installed a breather and capped off the line to the intake manifold.

As for the Z32 i dont have issues with oil up there so i havnt worried about it. let alone WONDER where to put a can in the already cramped bay. Razz

in this article i read they say a breather is the worst you can do, becuase its just like the cap except it does something different to the vacuum. idk, maybe its worth checking up on at least.

and you have an ae86? drift? tell us more!!!!

just like what cap? just like capping the line?

you cap the line on the manifold side, put the breather on the valve cover side.
so now the manifold is not actively sucking air (and/or oil) thru the intake. the valve cover is still permitted to breath to the atmosphere if there is any pressurization.

the oil catch cans are placed in route of the OEM or upgraded vacuum line from the cover to the intake manifold. So that any oil being sucked up is deposited in the can rather than back into the intake.

yes i drift the AE86 as well as my Z. guess i will have to make an 'other ride' thread about it when i have time.
